Eyelid Surgery & Minimally Invasive Facial Rejuvenation
Eyelid surgery is a great way to improve the appearance of most men and women over the age of 40, though younger patients may sometimes benefit as well. Droopy upper eyelids or puffy lower eyelids (bags under the eyes) result in a tired, sad appearance. Blepharoplasty surgery (also known as an Eyelid Lift) can result in a more alert, youthful appearance without an extreme makeover. After surgery you will still look like yourself, only younger and more vibrant.
The Nielsen Eye Center’s ophthalmic plastic surgeon (a.k.a. oculoplastic surgeon or eye plastic surgeon), Dr. Kapadia, has more extensive training in blepharoplasty and other forms of eyelid surgery than any other type of physician and has trained at the nation’s top medical schools including Harvard and The University of Pennsylvania.
Minimally invasive facial rejuvenation with Botox or facial fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm is an excellent choice for many patients, including younger patients who do not need blepharoplasty surgery. Botox can help reduce wrinkles, especially in the area between the eyebrows, on the forehead and around the eyes. Restylane and Juvederm can help fill hollows under the eyes and around the mouth (such as smile lines) and help create fuller lips in a much safer way than the collagen injections used in the past.
Brow Lift:
A forehead lift is most commonly performed in someone over age 40. As we grow older, our skin loses its elasticity, and furrows tend to form that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired. At the same time, this loss of elasticity renders the soft tissues more vulnerable to gravitational effects. This, combined with environmental forces, often results in brow droop. Brow lifting can effectively reverse these effects
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift):
Upper Eyelid Lift: In this procedure, excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids is removed. Upper eyelid surgery will correct the appearance of an old, tired and/or angry look, yielding a more youthful and alert appearance.
Lower Eyelid Lift: Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes the excess fat and skin in the lower eyelids. This excess tissue appears as “bags” and/or discoloration under the eyes.
Botox:
Botox is the brand name for botulinum toxin type A, a focal muscle-relaxing agent approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1989. Botox relaxes the overactive muscles that cause frown lines and laugh lines yielding a more refreshed look without a major surgical procedure.A 10 minute treatment involves injecting a very small dose of the toxin directly into the specific muscles which causes the unwanted lines of expression. This toxin safely paralyzes the isolated muscles. Following the injection, it can take from three to fourteen days to achieve the maximal results. The paralysis lasts from two to five months and can yield very dramatic results. Treatment is simple and non-surgical. However, to maintain the effect, the injections must be repeated.
Benefits of Botox:
- There is no recovery time from Botox injections and you may return to normal activities immediately.
- Botox does not cause systemic internal side effects and you can keep getting “de-wrinkled” for the rest of your life.
- Botox is the most studied brand of botulinum toxins and has been used to treat over 1 million patients worldwide for more than 15 years.
