Many people take their vision for granted. Even people who wear contacts, glasses or get corrective surgery sometimes forget how important their vision can be to them. This is especially true in modern 21st century workplaces where many jobs rely on the extensive use of computers and their displays for hours at a time.

Workplace Wellness: Take Breaks
Whether you are typing away on a computer, or playing video games for hours, or binging a series on Netflix, uninterrupted viewing on a display is not good for your eyes. One of the chief reasons for this is when you concentrate on anything visually—even reading—you will blink less. This, in turn, can cause your eyes to dry out faster, as you’re not lubricating them as frequently, which is one of the functions of blinking.
If you have the self-awareness to force yourself to blink more frequently, that’s great! If you don’t, then the next best thing is to step away from the screen at regular intervals and give your eyes a visual break, and some exercise with more blinking.
Configure Your Display
If you’re working at a computer or watching TV, one of the best ways to keep your eyes in good condition is to optimize your viewing environment. If you’re using an old CRT monitor or TV, think about switching to a modern flat panel display, as these are easier on the eyes. Ensure there is decent lighting in the area, so your eyes aren’t straining.
The configuration of the display itself can also be important. Use the best resolution to keep images sharp, don’t read tiny fonts that force you to squint. Also, consider using some kind of glare filter screens if you have the type of display that creates enough glare to interfere with viewing. All of these little fixes go a long way towards being kind to your vision.
Get an Eye Exam
Prevention is still the best medicine, so a scheduled eye exam from time to time is still the best way to maintain healthy vision.
