The Toric Lens is a lens that corrects for astigmatism to allow patients to see well in the distance. They will typically still need glasses for reading and computer work.
Astigmatism is a common vision problem, usually caused by an irregularly shaped cornea (called corneal astigmatism). In a normal eye, with a round corneal curvature, light rays passing through the cornea and focus exactly at one spot on the retina. With corneal astigmatism, the surface of the cornea has an uneven curvature. As a result, light rays are not focused at one spot on the retina and your vision becomes distorted or blurred.
The AcrySof Toric Intraocular Lens (IOL) is an advanced technology that now makes it possible to correct the cataracts clouding your vision as well as the corneal astigmatism distorting your vision, all in the same surgery.
- This lens is designed for patients with high amounts of astigmatism, who are not eligible for traditional Limbal Relaxing Incisions(LRI).
- This lens does not correct for mid-range and near vision. Glasses will still be needed after the surgery.
