What To Expect After LASIKin Boston, MA

What To Expect After LASIK

So you’ve consulted with your doctor about LASIK, found out you’re a qualified candidate and scheduled your surgery. Your doctor at The Nielsen Eye Center has told you how the surgery is going to go and how it’s done, and they’ve also told you how to prepare. But you may be wondering to yourself just how things will go once you have the surgery. How long will it take to recover? When will you be able to see with full and perfect vision? Here’s what you can expect after LASIK surgery!

Right After Surgery

LASIK surgery itself won’t take long and will be a routine outpatient procedure. This means you’ll go home right after. Someone should drive you to and from the surgery as you will not be cleared to drive after the procedure. Right after surgery, your eyes may feel a bit numb as the local anesthetizing drops wear off, but your vision will be markedly improved right away. Your doctor will give you an eye mask that you should wear to protect your eyes while you sleep. You will be given sunglasses, and it is recommended that you use a pair when you go outside. You also should be careful not to rub your eyes as this may dislocate the corneal flap before it is able to heal properly.

In The Days After

It’s perfectly normal for your eyes to feel a bit sore and strange for a few days after surgery. You will have a follow-up appointment with your doctor at The Nielsen Eye Center a day or two after your surgery so they can make sure your eye is healing properly. Besides slight discomfort, though, you should be able to return to regular activities the day after surgery. Be sure you apply lubricating eye drops to keep your eyes from drying out, and also be careful to continue wearing sunglasses for protection when outside.

In The Weeks After Surgery

Each successive day after surgery, your eyesight will likely continue to improve. You will also find your eyes feel more normal as the corneal flap heals.

In The Months After Surgery

It will take about 1-2 months for your eyes to fully heal unless you have a particularly high prescription. During this time, your vision will continue to improve, and after the first few weeks, the recovery isn’t too noticeable once the initial discomfort goes away. Always check in with your doctor, but after a few months, your eyesight should be nearly perfect!
