Dr. Helen Moreira of the Nielsen Eye Center highlights the benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic for eye care patients interested in more than vision correction.

Boston, MA – The Nielsen Eye Center is dedicated to providing patients with comprehensive eye care. While vision correction procedures such as LASIK or laser cataract surgery make up the core of their offerings, the Boston eye care practice also specializes in procedures such as eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) and BOTOX® Cosmetic to improve both the function and the aesthetics of the eye. Recently, Boston ophthalmologist Helen Moreira, MD authored a blog post about the benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic for her eye care patients.

“For those interested in nonsurgical facial rejuvenation, BOTOX® Cosmetic can help achieve a refreshed look and more youthful appearance,” writes Dr. Moreira in her blog post titled, “Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Right for Me?” As one of the leading nonsurgical procedures used to treat facial lines and wrinkles, BOTOX® Cosmetic can be administered to address aesthetic concerns such as forehead wrinkles, lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet around the eyes, and more.

There are several advantages to using an injectable such as BOTOX® Cosmetic compared to more aggressive facial rejuvenation procedures, says Dr. Moreira. She notes that, unlike surgical procedures, there is generally no associated downtime with BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments, and patients are typically able to return to their normal daily activities immediately after the injection. She also adds that the procedure is extremely fast, as patients who come in for a BOTOX® Cosmetic consultation can typically have the procedure performed that same day.

Within the first two weeks of treatment, Dr. Moreira says patients will generally notice their wrinkles diminishing in appearance as the underlying facial muscles that cause wrinkles begin to relax. For most patients, she adds, the results of BOTOX® Cosmetic last approximately three months. In the end, the Boston ophthalmologist notes that patients can repeat the procedure to help maintain optimal results.
