Exceptional Vision Care in Bostonin Boston, MA

Nielsen Eye Center is proud to offer exceptional vision care to individuals in Boston and beyond. Our experienced eye doctors specialize in creating personalized treatment plans and providing guidance throughout treatment. We are committed to helping patients achieve clear vision using cutting-edge technologies and are proud to offer an array of vision treatments, including the following.

LASIK

Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) eye surgery is the most performed laser refractive surgery to address vision issues. During this procedure, a special laser is used to alter the shape of the cornea or the clear tissue at the front of the eye. This provides the refraction needed to correct vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

At Nielsen Eye Center, our doctors seek cutting-edge LASIK technology to provide patients with the best possible care. Along with traditional LASIK techniques, we are proud to offer monovision LASIK. This option is an effective option for treating presbyopia, which occurs when the eyes slowly lose the ability to see things up close, which often occurs as an individual ages.

The LASIK Procedure

LASIK surgery can often be completed in 30 minutes or less. During this procedure, patients will lie on their backs. A numbing drop is placed into the eye and an instrument is used to hold the eyelids open.  Patients will be asked to focus on a point of light during surgery to keep the eye fixed. The laser is used to create a flap in the cornea, which may cause a sensation of pressure. Folding back this flap allows the doctor to access the part of the cornea that should be reshaped. The laser will then be used to reshape this area, after which the corneal flap will be put back into place.

Cataracts

A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye. Individuals with cataracts may have trouble reading, driving, or seeing clearly. Common symptoms of cataracts include cloudy, blurred, or dim vision, sensitivity to light and glare, seeing “halos” around lights, fading colors, trouble seeing at night, and more.

Cataract Surgery

At Nielsen Eye Center, we offer laser cataract surgery to address symptoms associated with cataracts. Because everyone’s eyes are different, this procedure allows our eye doctors to provide a customized solution based on individual eye measurements and data.

The main goal of cataract surgery is to remove the cataract, replacing the natural lens of the eye with an implantable interocular lens (IOL). This procedure takes about 15 minutes to complete and provides fantastic long-term results.

EVO ICL

The EVO ICL (implantable collamer lens) offers a solution for patients with moderate to severe nearsightedness and astigmatism. This cutting-edge refractive lens can correct vision, providing patients with an alternative to glasses and contact lenses. It is also a great alternative for individuals who are not good candidates for LASIK.

During EVO ICL placement, the eye doctor will create a small opening in your cornea that will be used to insert the EVO ICL. The procedure is usually painless with numbing eye drops and it often takes less than 20 – 30 minutes to complete. Patients can enjoy improved vision right away.

Corneal Cross-Linking

Corneal cross-linking is performed to slow the weakening of the cornea in individuals with keratoconus. This procedure is performed by an eye doctor in the office on an outpatient basis. During this procedure, special riboflavin drops are placed in a sequence onto the surface of the eye. When combined with a unique UV light, these drops will strengthen the bonds in the cornea. The entire procedure takes about one hour to complete.
