About Norwell
Norwell is a town in Plymouth County in southern Massachusetts and has a population of around 11,000 residents. In the 1700s and 1800s, Norwell was a major shipbuilding center and produced many well-known ships. The town is known for its natural beauty, excellent schools, and colonial and early American architecture. It’s home to the North River and a number of walking trails. It’s also where you can find the James Library and Center for the Arts. When visiting or living in Norwell, you can also enjoy the many beautiful historic homes.
What is LASIK?
LASIK (Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a refractive error eye surgery that changes the shape and curvature of the cornea (the clear covering over the front of the eye). It is designed to help improve vision and reduce your need for glasses and/or contact lenses.
During the laser eye surgery, a specialized laser beam is used to reshape the cornea to change how the cornea refracts light onto the retina at the back of the eye. It can address a number of vision concerns, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism.
Who is a Candidate for LASIK Eye Surgery?
While many patients who come into Nielsen Eye Center are good candidates for LASIK surgery, there are some specific criteria we follow to determine if this surgery is right for you.
Ideal Candidates for LASIK in Norwell:
- Are at least 18 years old
- Have a stable vision prescription that has changed much in the last year
- Have a thick enough corneal tissue for the procedure
- Are in generally good health
- Those looking to reduce or eliminate the use of corrective lenses or contact lenses
- Not struggling with eye diseases like glaucoma
LASIK Surgery Benefits
LASIK in Norwell offers several benefits, including the following:
- Improved vision: One of the biggest benefits of LASIK laser surgery is that it can improve your vision significantly. Your blurred vision will be clearer, and you’ll be less likely to need temporary vision correction like glasses and contacts.
- Long-lasting results: While the results of this refractive surgery are not considered completely permanent, they can last for 10-20 years. After that time, you may need enhancement surgery to address further vision problems.
- Short recovery time: Because LASIK surgery is an outpatient procedure, you can go home the same day. You can also expect an initial recovery period of a few days, but it can take up to six months for the eyes to fully heal.
- Less of a need for glasses and contact lenses: One of the benefits most patients look forward to is that they no longer need to wear glasses or contact lenses. While some patients still need to wear them occasionally, most don’t need to wear them at all.
